Why the Barnes MPG?
The Barnes MPG is a frangible bullet with a jacket around it, this way it still has the integrity of your standard projectile as opposed to your standard frangible which is just the compressed core in the shape of the bullet. With this frangible bullet it is designed to break apart upon impact with hard surfaces, reducing the risk of over-penetration. These rounds are often chosen for home defense scenarios because they are less likely to pass through multiple barriers such as drywall, while still being capable of stopping a threat.
Optimized for SBR's, our 55GR MPG is loaded in an NAS-3 Case. We are able to get exceptional ballistic performance out of shorter barrels due to our proprietary loading combined with the strength and consistency of our NAS-3 casings. The Barnes MPG projectile is a highly frangible, powdered-metal copper-tin core inside a gilding metal jacket. Unlike frangible bullets lacking a protective jacket, MPG bullets remain intact under the rigors of handling, feeding, and firing in standard-capacity magazines. This eliminates the primary cause of jammed actions and plugged barrels often experienced when firing frangible ammunition. The gilding metal jacket also allows for initial penetration, then releases all of its energy as it fragments apart after a solid impact. This substantially lowers over penetration and ricochet concerns in confined spaces or on steel targets.
